City of Edmonton Truck Survey

Project

This fall, the City of Edmonton is conducting a survey on truck routes in cooperation with the Government of Alberta.

This survey will help to:

• better understand the transportation needs for trucks and dangerous goods

• focus infrastructure investments to best support economic development

• understand the impacts of major infrastructure changes in the city, such as the expansion of the LRT and Anthony Henday Drive

Methodology

Trucks over 4,500 kg will be pulled over outside of peak hours (between 9 am and 3 pm) throughout the city.

Participation in the survey is voluntary, and all efforts will be made to minimize delays for truck drivers and motorists.

Safety is a priority while conducting this survey. Please slow down and follow directions on the road. Thank you for your patience and collaboration.

Background

Through The Way We Move, the Transportation Master Plan, the City of Edmonton is committed to support efficient goods movement. An efficient transportation network is critical for a productive economy.

A roadside survey is the most economical and effective method of gathering information from truck drivers on their origins and destinations, routes taken in the city, commodities carried and experiences while travelling on Edmonton roads.

The last complete review of trucks and dangerous goods routes was done in 1996.

The last complete review of goods movement in the city and the region took place in 2001.
